So continue, I also discuss about gundicha-marjana lila, cleaning the temple of Gundicha. Just I remind few words, previous class. Day before Ratha-yatra, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu manifested one lila, that is called clean the temple of Gundicha. Lord Jagannatha is going Jagannatha temple to Gundicha temple. Just Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu just little bit changed the mood, but same tradition is going on that means Lord Jagannatha once a year He comes out of the temple and He goes from Jagannatha temple to Gundicha temple. That means Krishna is going Kurukshetra to Vrindavana. This is the mood of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. For this regard, once a year He comes out from the Jagannatha temple and goes to Gundicha temple. And Gundicha temple, just He is staying nine days, then again after nine days He returns back from Gundicha Temple to Jagannatha temple. But, so most of the time of the year, that temple completely closed, for this regard, Gundicha temple full of dust.
For this regard, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself very humble asked to Kashi Mishra, Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya and the temple attendant, “I have to clean the temple with My own hands.” According to the requirements of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, then King Prataparudra and his associates arranged the cleaning the temple of Gundicha. That means clay pot and brooms and also some cloths for cleaning the temple in this way. Then on the day before Ratha-yatra, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, He also called all His devotees and first Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, first He do vandana to the Vaishnavas, and offered the garland on the neck of the Vaishnavas, that is called Vaishnava-puja, and also put the sandalwood on the forehead all the Vaishnavas. Then Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu proceed to Gundicha temple chanting the holy names, then Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself, first He clean the temple of Gundicha. And these things also, few days, two days, we also discuss how Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself clean and also absorbed in the same preparation mood of Srimati Radhika, that things I also explain. When Krishna left Vrindavana to Mathura, then gopis they felt pangs of separation from Krishna, especially Srimati Radhika, so much hankering how to meet with Krishna and Srimati Radhika felt pangs of separation from Krishna. But anyhow Srimati Radhika, She heard Krishna is coming from Mathura to Vrindavana and that time Srimati Radhika, She called Her sakhis and also cleaned the temple of Gundicha. This is the inner heart of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhus, for this regard, sometimes I also sing one Bengali song, sometimes devotees also performs that lila, dance lila, Tomra kunjo sajao go:
tomra kunjo sajao go
aaj amar pranonath ashite pare
That means, “My beloved Krishna, maybe He will come so you have to clean this temple. And this temple should be like your neat and clean heart, hridaya-mandira.” So very nice beautiful performance our devotees also perform this lila, (Sanskrit 7:30).
So now coming in this way, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu clean the temple of Gundicha, one, two, three times, brooming and took out all the dust and also some stone chips and so very far from the Gundicha temple. So in this way, again and again, two or three times, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself cleaned the temple and He also asked all the devotees they should clean up and down, all the walls, even the ceiling, everything is in there, so these things Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Himself also cleaned the Jagamohana place, the place where Jagannatha He sits on the altar and then again and again He also cleaned the temple with the water and then threw out all the water from the temple and again also cleaned the temple of Gundicha with the dry cloth. Even where is the small scratch, line, Lord Chaitanya Himself cleaned with His own uttariya. Now this temple is completely neat and clean. And as like the beautiful crystal, neat and clean as reflect your own shadow in there.
So in this way, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu taught how to clean, even also some devotees not clean properly, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu very sweet chastisement to them:
tumi bhāla kariyācha, śikhāha anyere
ei-mata bhāla karma seho yena kare
Chaitanya-critamrita (Madhya-lila 12.117)
[The Lord would say, “You have done well. Please teach this to others so that they may act in the same way.”]“Oh you are doing very nice service and you also teach to others.” In this way Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, with very sweet words, chastisement. Then the devotees they realised their own faults and they enthusiastically, they also clean the temple. Then again and again, two, three, times, four times and again bring the water from the Narendra-sarovara, cleaning and everything there. So this is called cleaning the temple of Gundicha.
Now today we also discuss about what is the purport, the significance about this lila, gundicha–marjana–lila. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Srila Prabhupada in his anubhashya very clearly he explained, that means in this lila Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is teaching to us, wondering in the cycle of repeated birth and death, very extreme fortunate living entities, they will come in our Krishna Consciousness, then you will do bhajana and sadhana and follow all the rules and regulations of vaidhi-bhakti:
guru-pādāśrayas tasmāt
kṛṣṇa-dīkṣādi-śikṣaṇam
viśrambheṇa guroḥ sevā
sādhu-vartmānuvartanam
Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu (1.2.74)
[[1] Accepting the shelter of the lotus feet of a bona fide spiritual master, [2] becoming initiated by the spiritual master and learning how to discharge devotional service from him, [3] obeying the orders of the spiritual master with faith and devotion, and [4] following in the footsteps of great ācāryas [teachers] under the direction of the spiritual master.]In this way sadhaka have to clean his hridaya-mandira, temple of his heart. Because Lord will sit in your heart if your heart is neat and clean as like crystal, so otherwise Lord will not sit. Even if we have little bit karma-vasana, desire to enjoy the material sense gratification, performing the good karma,
bhukti-mukti-spṛhā yāvat
piśācī hṛdi vartate
tāvad bhakti-sukhasyātra
katham abhyudayo bhavet
Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu (1.2.22)
[The material desire to enjoy the material world and the desire to become liberated from material bondage are considered to be two witches, and they haunt one like ghosts. As long as these witches remain within the heart, how can one feel transcendental bliss? As long as these two witches remain in the heart, there is no possibility of enjoying the transcendental bliss of devotional service.]Srila Rupa Gosvamipada mentioned this shloka in his Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu. Even one’s heart some desire of bhukti, mukti. Bhukti means to enjoy the sense gratifications, that is called to attain the heavenly planet, to enjoy the sense gratification with his subtle body. Or mukti, desire for the merge in Brahma, also Bhakti-devi will not manifest in the heart. So for this regard, Rupa Gosvamipada very clearly this verse:
bhukti-mukti-spṛhā yāvat
piśācī hṛdi vartate
tāvad bhakti-sukhasyātra
katham abhyudayo bhavet
So in this way Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, He’s teaching to us, again and again, we have to clean our heart. How? With the water. So that means, maybe a question, how will we to clean our heart with the water? That is called krishna-katha-shravanam. For this regard, shastra explains nine limbs of bhakti. First limbs, that is called: adau hari-katha shravanam, in the beginning you have to listen harikatha,
śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ
puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ
hṛdy antaḥ stho hy abhadrāṇi
vidhunoti suhṛt satām
Srimad-Bhagavatam (1.2.17)
[Sri Krishna, the Personality of Godhead, who is the Paramatma [Supersoul] in everyone’s heart and the benefactor of the truthful devotee, cleanses desire for material enjoyment from the heart of the devotee who has developed the urge to hear His messages, which are in themselves virtuous when properly heard and chanted.]Regularly listening to hari-katha, chanting holy names, then our heart will be neat and clean and these things also Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu very clearly explained in His Shikshashtaka, first shloka:
ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanaṁ bhava-mahā-dāvāgni-nirvāpaṇaṁ
śreyaḥ-kairava-candrikā-vitaraṇaṁ vidyā-vadhū-jīvanam
ānandāmbudhi-vardhanaṁ prati-padaṁ pūrṇāmṛtāsvādanaṁ
sarvātma-snapanaṁ paraṁ vijayate śrī-kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtanam
Chaitanya-charitamrita (Antya-lila 20.12)
[Let there be all victory for the chanting of the holy name of Lord Krishna, which can cleanse the mirror of the heart and stop the miseries of the blazing fire of material existence. That chanting is the waxing moon that spreads the white lotus of good fortune for all living entities. It is the life and soul of all education. The chanting of the holy name of Krishna expands the blissful ocean of transcendental life. It gives a cooling effect to everyone and enables one to taste full nectar at every step.]In this Kali-yuga there are no any other process to clean our heart, only nama-sankirtana:
harer nāma harer nāma
harer nāmaiva kevalam
kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva
nāsty eva gatir anyathā
Chaitanya-charitamrita (Madhya-lila 6.242)
[In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy, the only means of deliverance is the chanting of the holy names of the Lord. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way. ]That means chanting holy names and listening to hari-katha, bhagavat-katha from the lotus lips of sadhu, Guru, Vaishnava.
So in this way Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu explained and here also first explain how to collect all the dust. Because in our life not this life, millions, millions life we are wandering in the repeated cycle of birth and death. So many kinds of our samskara, bad impressions, remain in our heart. So how to remove all kinds of bad impressions? That is called lust, anger, enviousness, jealousy. That is called the bad impressions, kusha samskaras. Then also here also explain how to free from all anarthas, specially Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Bhajana-rahasya, explained four kinds of our anarthas: anartha-nivritti, that is called svarupa-bhrama, hridaya-durbalya, asat-trishna and aparadha. And also Vishvanatha Chakravartipada, Madhurya-kadambini, he also explained four kinds of anarthas, dushkriti-uttha-anarthas, sukriti-uttha-anarthas, bhakti-uttha-anarthas and aparadha-uttha-anarthas. How this remove all these types of anarthas from your heart. This is also different kinds of dust in our heart. Then Bhaktivinoda Thakura also explained many kinds of leaves [weed], that is called trinakaghna, because Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu He told, “Collect all the trinakaghna”. Trinakaghna means grass, leaves, dried grass and leaves, first collect. That is called the karma, vasana, jnana, yoga cheshta anyabhilasha. Anyabhilasha, means accept krishna-seva, other things that is called anyabhilasha. So for this regard, Rupa Gosvamipada very clearly explained,
anyābhilāṣitā-śūnyaṁ
jñāna-karmādy-anāvṛtam
ānukūlyena kṛṣṇānu-
śīlanaṁ bhaktir uttamā
Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu (1.1.11)
[The cultivation of activities that are meant exclusively for the pleasure of Sri Krishna, or in other words the uninterrupted flow of service to Sri Krishna, performed through all endeavours of the body, mind and speech, and through the expression of various spiritual sentiments (bhavas), which is not covered by jnana (knowledge aimed at impersonal liberation) and karma (reward-seeking activity), and which is devoid of all desires other than the aspiration to bring happiness to Sri Krishna, is called uttama-bhakti, pure devotional service.]So how will remove the anyabhilasha? That is accept krishna-bhakti, others desires, that is called karma, jnana, yoga cheshta. Many people they also going to karma-marga, some they are going to jnana-marga, and some are going to yoga-marga. So karma-marga, yoga-marga, you have to give [up]. Srila Narottama dasa Thakura explained,
karma kāṇḍa, jñāna-kāṇḍa, kevali viṣera bhāṇḍa
amṛta boliyā yebā khāya
nānā yoni sadā phire, kadarya bhakṣaṇa kare,
tāra janma adhaḥ pāte yāy
Prema-bhakti-candrika
[The path of karma-kanda (fruitive activities) and the path of jnana-kanda (speculation) are just like strong pots of poison. A person who mistakes this poison to be nectar and drinks it travels in different species of life. And, according to his body, he eats all types of abominable things and enjoys many horrible pleasures.]Narottama dasa Thakura in Prema-bhakti-candrika, very clearly explained, karma-kanda and jnana-kanda that is called the bad things, like dog vomiting and eating. Viṣera bhāṇḍa means that this is the vessel of poison. Amṛta boliyā yebā khāya – Ones who are thinking this is nectar actual they are going to path of death. So have to give up the path of karma-kanda, jnana-kanda, yoga, everything there. Kadarya bhakṣaṇa kare – Then they are also wandering in the path of repeated birth and death and many species they are taking birth this way. So for this regard Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is saying have to remove all these things from our heart.
Then fourth Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu explain so how to clean the dust, the dust, that is called asat-sanga and bad desires are coming. Without sat-sanga, our heart will not be neat and clean. So sometimes people they are doing bhajana and sadhana and simultaneously they also associate with bad persons, karmi, jnani and yogis. So here Bhaktivinoda Thakura explains, have to give up the bad association. Because karma-marga, that is called the many kinds of dust, dhuli, dust also flying in the air. In the same way, if you not clean your heart and the dust not very far from the temple, hridaya-mandira, then maybe that dust will again come and cover your heart. that means if you do not give up the association of karmi or jnani’s then automatically your karma-vasana, jnana-vasana will come, desire to perform the karma or practise the nirvishesha-brahmavada. So here it is also explained that Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu taught to us, took all the dust and threw very far from the temple. Sometimes people also doing some shubha-karma and in this way they also thinking my heart is neat and clean. Actually this is not true. This is called one kinds of philosophy, that is called hasti-snana, logic. Hasti-snana means elephant takes bath in the pure water of the Ganges, but after taking bath in the pure water of the Ganges, then elephant, when comes out from the water of the Ganges, and taking the dust with the trunk and cover the dust his whole body. In the same way, sometimes people are thinking, “I am good good karma, charity, donations, helping the people.” Actually they are thinking, “My heart is neat and clean.” Actually, that heart is called hasti-snana.
So karma-vasana, even you should not perform any good karma or bad karma. For this regard, Srila Raghunatha dasa Gosvami in Manah-shiksha very clearly explained:
na dharmaṁ nādharmaṁ śruti-gana-niruktaṁ kila kuru
vraje rādhā-krsna-pracura-paricaryām iha tanu
śacī-sūnuṁ nandīśvara-pati-sutatve guru-varaṁ
mukunda-preṣṭhatve smara padam ajasraṁ nanu manaḥ
Manah-shiksha (2)
[O my dear mind, please do not perform either the routine religious activities resulting in piety (dharma) or the irreligious activities resulting in sin (adharma) as mentioned in the Shrutis or Vedas. Rather, you should render profuse loving service to Sri Sri Radha-Krishna Yugala here in Vraja, for the Shrutis have ascertained Them to be the highest principle of supreme worship and the Supreme Absolute Truth. Always meditate on Shachinandana Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is richly endowed with the complexion and sentiments of Srimati Radhika, as non-different from Sri Nanda-nandana. And always remember the spiritual master as most dear to Sri Mukunda.]Even I will not perform any dharma and adharma, that means I will not perform any shubha-karma and bad karma. Whatever explain our Shrutis, good karma, we should not perform good karma or bad karma, because sometimes devotees are thinking, “Ok I may also perform some good karma, charity donations, helping the people, but here very clearly explain in Manah-shiksha, Raghunatha dasa Gosvami, only my aim and object how to serve Divine Couple in Vraja. Because those who interested to practise devotional service to Vraja, vraja-bhakti, so no need to any good karma or bad karma which mention in our Shrutis or Upanishads.
So here Bhaktivinoda Thakura in this context very clearly explain you have to far from karma-vasana. We should not also perform good karma, what to say the bad karma. Only hearts should be completely smeared with kevala-bhakti, means shuddha-bhakti. How will we clean our hearts, kevala-bhakti? Because Lord will sit or take rest ones heart is neat and clean, kevala-bhakti, that means we should not practise karma-mishra-bhakti, jnana-mishra-bhakti, not aropa-siddha-bhakti, or sanga-siddha-bhakti. We have to only practise, that is called, svarupa-siddha-bhakti because Lord will sit when our heart will be neat and clean. So our Vaishnavas very clearly explain:
tomāra hṛdoye sadā govinda-viśrām
govinda kohena-mora vaiṣṇava parāṇ
Ei-baro karuna koro (5)
[Your heart is always the resting place of Lord Govinda. Lord Govinda says, “The Vaishnavas are in My heart.”]kṛṣṇa-bhakta — niṣkāma, ataeva ‘śānta’
bhukti-mukti-siddhi-kāmī — sakali ‘aśānta’
Chaitanya-caritamrtita (Madhya-lila 19.49)
[Because a devotee of Lord Krishna is desireless, he is peaceful. Fruitive workers desire material enjoyment, jnanis desire liberation, and yogis desire material opulence; therefore they are all lusty and cannot be peaceful.]So those who are pure devotee of Krishna their heart is neat and clean and calm and quiet. So saying, kṛṣṇa-bhakta — niṣkāma – those who are the pure devotee of Krishna in their heart, no any kinds of any material desires. Only their heart only one desire how to give exclusive pleasure to Krishna. The cultivation of activities, how to exclusively give pleasure to Krishna.
So krishna-seva-vasana. So for this regard Krishna is saying, “I am not staying in the heart of karmi, jnani, yogi’s”.
nāhaṁ vasāmi vaikuṇṭhe
yogināṁ hṛdayena ca
mad-bhaktā yatra
gāyanti tatra tiṣṭhāmi nārada
Padma Purana
[O Narada, I do not dwell in Vaikuntha nor am I in the hearts of the yogis. I reside where My devotees glorify My name, form, qualities and transcendental pastimes.]Krishna very clearly explained in this verse nāhaṁ vasāmi vaikuṇṭhe, “Even I am not staying in Vaikuntha”. Here very clearly explained, Krishna is saying in this verse, “Those who are pure devotee, even I will give four types of mukti: salokya, sarshti, samipya, sarupya. Even those who are My pure devotee, they will not accept these four types of mukti.” Those who are pure devotees, the pure devotees means those who are devotees of Goloka Vrindavana. Even they don’t want Vaikuntha-dhama. In Vaikuntha also four kinds of liberation is there, mukti. Salokya means living on the same planet, sa loka, same planet of Lord. Sarshti means same opulence of Lord. Samipya means sit very close to Lord [to be a personal associate]. Sarupya means same form as Lord. Except Kaustubha-mani and Vishnu’s own Sudarshana chakra. So even the devotee…dīyamānaṁ na gṛhṇanti vinā mat-sevanaṁ janāḥ, in this verse very clearly explained, “Those who are My pure devotee, even if I will give four types of mukti they will not accept. So what to say about oneness with Brahma? That is called, which mukti? Sayujya-mukti.
So those who are the devotee of Goloka Vrindavana they want to serve in Goloka Vrindavana with specially three moods, sakhya, vatsalya and madhurya moods. Even madhurya moods are also in there, very confidential, five kinds of also there sakhis: sakhi, nitya-sakhi, prana-sakhi, preshtha-sakhi, prana-preshtha-sakhi, they will be ones to serve Srimati Radhika enumerable…, nitya-sakhi and prana-sakhi that is called manjari-bhava. So in this way, sadhaka heart should be neat and clean.
Now explain Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu also collect some stone chips, means nirvishesha-brahma-jnana, endeavours for nirvishesha-brahma-jnana, that is called those who are advaitavadi. Especially there mention about Shankara philosophers. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu explained and very angry chastisement to Prakashananda Sarasvati:
kāśīte paḍāya beṭā prakāśa-ānanda
sei beṭā kare mora aṅga khaṇḍa khaṇḍa
Chaitanya-bhagavata (Madhya-khanda, 3.37)
[There is one wretch in Kashi named Prakashananda, who cuts My body to pieces while teaching the Vedas.]In Kashi, Prakashananda, he does not know the perfect meaning of Veda. But he always explain, Lord has no form, nirvishesha-brahma, this is offenses, aparadha. Shankara philosopher, what is the offense? Because they don’t believe Lord has transcendental form. But Brahma-samhita very clearly explained:
īśvaraḥ paramaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ
anādir ādir govindaḥ sarva-kāraṇa-kāraṇam
Brahma-samhita (5.1)
[Krishna who is known as Govinda is the Supreme Godhead. He has an eternal blissful spiritual body. He is the origin of all. He has no other origin and He is the prime cause of all causes.]Lord has very beautiful transcendental sac-cit-ananda-vigraha form. Vedas, Puranas Upanishads, everywhere also explain Lord has very beautiful form is there.
So advatavadis for their ignorance, they want to become Brahma, that is called ahaṁ brahmāsmi, and just their false ego’s, “we are liberated.”
jñānī jīvan-mukta-daśā pāinu kari’ māne
vastutaḥ buddhi ‘śuddha’ nahe kṛṣṇa-bhakti vine
Chaitanya-charitamrita (Madhya-lila 22.29)
[There are many philosophical speculators [jnanis] belonging to the Mayavada school who consider themselves liberated and call themselves Narayana. But their intelligence is not purified unless they engage in Krishna’s devotional service.]Chaitanya-charitamrita very clearly explains this verse, jnanis, here the nirvishesha-jnanis, they are thinking, “I am liberated from this material world”. Actually they are not liberated. Just in their mind, they are thinking, “I’m liberated”. Because without practising shuddha-bhakti, even no-one can be free from the material existence. Because Bhakti-devi will give everything. If you practise the shuddha-bhakti, automatically you will get also mukti:
bhaktis tvayi sthiratarā bhagavan yadi syād
daivena naḥ phalati divya-kiśora-mūrtiḥ
muktiḥ svayaṁ mukulitāñjali sevate ’smān
dharmārtha-kāma-gatayaḥ samaya-pratīkṣāḥ
Krishna-karnamrita (107)
[“O my Lord, if one engages in Your pure devotional service with determination, You become visible in Your original transcendental youthful form as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. As far as liberation is concerned, she stands before the devotee with folded hands waiting to render service. Religion, economic development and sense gratification are all automatically attained without separate endeavour.”]One who practises shuddha-bhakti then bhukti, mukti they automatically following the lotus feet of Bhakti-devi. Bhakti-devi she is as like Queen. And Mukti-devi, she is the maidservant of Bhakti-devi means when Queen she walks, then automatically her maidservants fanning to her and left and right side all they are hankering how to to serve to Bhakti-devi. That means also explain, jnanis, those who are hankering to get the liberation, they are thinking in this mind, “We liberated”. Actually they are not liberated. So here Gaurasundara, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, other things also explain in the heart of sadhaka, many kinds of unwanted things, that is called lust, anger, enviousness, jealousy, even name, fame, reputation, nama, labha, puja, pratishtha, many kinds of in the heart: 00.34.30
pratiṣṭhāśa dhṛṣṭā śvapaca-ramaṇī me hṛdi naṭet
kathaṁ sādhu premā spṛśati śucir etan nanu manaḥ
sadā tvaṁ sevasva prabhu-dayita-sāmantam atulaṁ
yathā tvāṁ niṣkāśya tvaritam iha taṁ veśayati saḥ
Manah-shiksha (7)
[“O mind! How can pure divine love appear in my heart as long as the shameless dog-eating outcaste woman of the desire for prestige is audaciously dancing there? Therefore, always remember and serve the immeasurably powerful commanders of the army of Krishna, the beloved devotees of the Lord. They will at once banish this outcaste woman and initiate the flow of immaculate vraja-prema in your heart.”]If your heart is dancing many kinds of name, fame and reputation, so how possible shuddha-bhakti will manifest in your heart? Name, fame and reputation like the chandalini, dog-eater. So here sadhaka should be, throw all kinds these things. And not only this, many kinds of duplicity, hypocrisy, some people they also have many kinds of anima, lagima is there riddhi, siddhi [mystical powers]. Sometimes people they also collect ashta-siddhi, nava-niddhi the in this way they are showing the people, he is Bhagavan, he is the greatest devotee, as like Bishkishana, like at the time of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, there was one yogi, his name was Bishkishana. That time British government ruled in India and the Bishkishana he also declared that he is the direct incarnation of Lord Narayana or Krishna and one certain time he will kill all the mleccha, he declared, and simultaneously, Vishkeshana he also declared he will perform rasa dance in the middle of the forest, and he told, this way. That time the British Government gave information to Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura because that time Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura was the district magistrate, that time. So Bhaktivinoda Thakura, he came and he met with Bishkishana and Bhaktivinoda Thakura noticed he was completely one yogi, just acquired some mystic power. Then Bhaktivinoda Thakura caught his dreadlocks and cut all his dreadlocks and put in jail. Then Bishkishana, after forty days, left his body in the jail. So where is the Bhagavana?
Sometimes people they collect some kinds of riddhi, siddhi, and showing to the people he is the great devotee or he is Bhagavan, sometimes ignorance people chasing behind to them, thinking, “Oh he is Bhagavan,” this this this, that is called bujruki, means to show their hypocrisy. Duplicity and hypocrisy.
So Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, in the cleaning of the temple, showing this way. A big, big stone, this is called many types of nama, labha, puja, pratishtha. Then Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu again and again cleaning the temple of Gundicha, even in small scretch, line, then Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, with His own sannyasa cloth, again and again cleaning and took out. What is that? The significance is that, sometimes devotees, they have no karma-vasana, heart is neat and clean, but sometimes aishvarya-bhava because if you want to Goloka Vrindavana and serve to Divine Couple Radha and Krishna, should be give up aishvarya-bhava, the mood of opulence:
aho bhāgyam aho bhāgyaṁ
nanda-gopa-vrajaukasām
yan-mitraṁ paramānandaṁ
pūrṇaṁ brahma sanātanam
Srimad-Bhagavatam (10.14.32)
[How greatly fortunate are Nanda Maharaja, the cowherd men and all the other inhabitants of Vrajabhumi! There is no limit to their good fortune, because the Absolute Truth, the source of transcendental bliss, the eternal Supreme Brahman, has become their friend.]Because the residents of Vraja, Vrajavasis, they have relationship with Krishna as like their families member, laukika–sad-bandhuvat-priti madhurya-bhava. Because in your heart, little bit aishvarya-bhava, mood of opulence, you cannot attain to Goloka Vrindavana. The residents of Vraja, Vrajavasis, their heart is full of sweetness mood, madhurya-bhava, that means they make friendship with Krishna as like their family’s member, laukika–sad-bandhuvat-priti.
So in this way Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu showing this way. Aiśvarya-jñāne bhajileha nāhi pāya vrajendra-nandane (Chaitanya-charitamrita, Madhya-lila 8.230).
If you perform bhajana and sadhana, little bit mood of aishvarya, you will not attain to Krishna in Vraja. So in this way, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu teaching to us, and also Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu explain how to serve to Krishna with our tongue, chanting holy names, and with our hands, serve to Krishna. Because when devotees are bringing the water from Narendra-sarovara that time they are also saying, “Krishna Krishna”. Because no vishayi-varta, give up the mundane talk but always chant holy names. And Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in this way He is teaching to us how to serve to Srimati Radhika, radha-dasyam. That is called manjari-bhava which Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu distributed to all the devotees and these things Srila Rupa Gosvamipada explained in his book, Vidagda-madhava-natakama:
anarpita-carīṁ cirāt karuṇayāvatīrṇaḥ kalau
samarpayitum unnatojjvala-rasāṁ sva-bhakti-śriyam
hariḥ puraṭa-sundara-dyuti-kadamba-sandīpitaḥ
sadā hṛdaya-kandare sphuratu vaḥ śacī-nandanaḥ
Vidagdha-madhava (1.2)
[“May the Supreme Lord who is known as the son of Srimati Shachi-devi be transcendentally situated in the innermost core of your heart. Resplendent with the radiance of molten gold, He has descended in the age of Kali by His causeless mercy to bestow what no incarnation has ever offered before: the most elevated mellow of devotional service, the mellow of conjugal love.”]Because Shachinandana Gaurahari, He indiscriminately distributed this highest prema to everybody. But Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, He is saying everybody chant holy names with pure devotees, suddha-bhakta-sanga nama-sankirtana.
Gaura-premanande! Hari Hari Bol!
