Govindadev Temple
Lord Madana Mohan, Govinda Dev, and Gopinath are the three principal presiding Deities of Vrindavan.
- Govinda Dev represents the Abhideya-tattva (the process of devotional service).
- Gopinath represents the Prayojana-tattva (the ultimate goal of life, pure love of Godhead).
Sanatana Goswami manifested the Deity of Madana Mohan. Rupa Goswami manifested Govinda Dev. Madhu Pandit manifested Gopinath.
The instruction of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to the Six Goswamis was to uncover the lost holy places of Vrindavan, to write scriptures (granthis), and to install Deities.
Govinda Dev appeared to Rupa Goswami in a dream, describing the location where He was to be found and where a temple should be built.
There is a pastime where the Deities were once talking, and Gopinath was glorifying Parvati and Shiva. The meaning of this glorification is explained: Shiva never dances the rasa-lila (the divine dance of love); his dance is the Tandava. This pastime is described in the book “Govinda Virudavali”
