12/10/23 midday – About Mahabhava (Hindi) – Brisbane, Australia | Srila BV Vana Maharaja

  • The gopis tell Sukadeva Gosvami not to pronounce their names at the recitation of Srimad-Bhagavatam because there were people in that assembly who were not qualified to hear madhurya-katha.
  • What we call ‘love’ here is actually lust (that which has self-interest).
  • Sloka: akaitava kṛṣṇa-prema, yena jāmbūnada-hema, (CC Madhya-lila 2.43).
  • In the transcendental world, love is eternal and indestructible.
  • Sukadeva Gosvami’s conflict: The scriptures say we must speak the name of Guru, but Radha told him not to speak Her name.
  • Should we follow the words of Guru or sastra? Sukadeva Gosvami chooses to speak Radha’s name, indirectly.
  • Sloka: anayārādhito nūnaṁ (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.30.28).
  • On the other hand, Sukadeva felt such intense longing that he could not even utter the names of the gopis, because if he did, he would be unconscious for six months, and he would have to recite the Bhagavatam for seven days.
  • One day of Brahma is a thousand rotations of the four yugas. Not to see Krsna in the blink of an eye is an eternity for the gopis.
  • Two of the six symptoms of the gopis’ mahabhava are: tirtha-yoni-prapti-lalasa (the gopis wish to be born in a vegetable or animal body so that they can meet Krsna); and, atma-bismaya (Radha forgets Herself and does not know whether She is The Enjoyer or The Enjoyed).
  • The manjaris and sakhis are manifestations of Radha’s moods.
  • Three types of knowledge: tad-padartha-jnana (knowledge of God); tvam-padartha-jnana (knowledge of the soul); and, jiva-brahma-aikya-jnana (knowledge of the soul’s oneness with God – this must be rejected!).
  • Jnana and vairagya are not part of bhakti, but at the beginning of the self-realisation process it is necessary to know these studies in order to discern and know what to reject.
  • Krsna is Brhad-sat-cit-ananda, and the jiva is anu-sat-cit-ananda, large and tiny respectively.
  • Beautiful lila of gopis imposing their mood on the river.
