PART 1
- Bhakti-yoga is the devotional service that connects you to the Lord.
- We are residents of Goloka Vrndavana – back to God, back home.
- We are not the body, we are the soul.
- The soul is eternal and transcendental and travels in different bodies.
- There are 5 elements in the gross body: earth, water, fire, air and ether.
- The soul will complete its journey when it reaches the abode of the Lord.
- All souls suffer the three kinds of miseries in this material world: adhidaivika (caused by demigods), adhibhautika (caused by other living entities) and adhyatmika (caused by body and mind).
- Within the gross body is the subtle body, which consists of intelligence, mind, ego and ceta (impressions, samskaras).
- Within the subtle body is the atma (spiritual body).
- The nature of the mind is very vibratory.
- If you control your mind, you automatically control all your senses.
- Arjuna asked Sri Krishna how to control the mind.
- Bhagavad-gita says there are two ways to control the mind: abhyasa (practice, not giving up) and vairagya (renunciation).
- The mind automatically focuses on objects of sense gratification, which is the cause of mental disturbance.
- The story of the king and his goat that wouldn’t stop eating.
- Without controlling the senses, you will be disturbed.
- Chant the holy names to control the mind.
- Excess and deficiency also cause disturbances, everything has to be balanced (e.g. food).
- There is no limit to the chanting of the holy names.
- Chant a certain number of rounds every day.
- In Kali-yuga, the method of solving all problems is the chanting of the holy names.
- Today is Hera Panchami: 5 days after Ratha Yatra.
- If you go every morning, most diseases will disappear.
-Lord Jagannatha stayed in His room for 14 days (since the Snana Yatra) and had to go out to improve His mind and change His climate. - Lakshmi Devi had spies to know where Lord Jagannatha was going, so they went to look for Him.
- Hera Panchami, Hera means to seek.
- A kanthi-mala/Tulasi-mala means that you belong to Sri Krishna.
- All devotees must wear a Tulasi-mala around their neck and follow the principles of not eating any kind of meat, garlic or onions.
- Devotees should live a simple life with high thoughts.
