The Difference Between Appearance & Birth — Janmashtami Special ✨
Media and TV often present Lord Krishna’s pastimes with inaccuracies.
That’s why our scriptures advise — always hear Hari-katha from pure Vaishnavas.
For example:
Lord Nrisimhadeva appeared from a pillar — but does that make the pillar His father and mother? No.
There’s a vast difference between Appearance (Prakatya) and Birth (Janma).
Similarly, Shri Krishna’s Appearance was in Mathura, but His Birth (Janma) — as celebrated by Vrajavasis — took place in Gokula.
This is the eternal truth revealed in our scriptures.
Shastra Evidence 📜
नन्दस्त्वात्मज उत्पन्ने जाताह्लादो महामना:… (SB 10.5.1–2)
Translation: When Krishna took birth as the son of Nanda Maharaja, Nanda Baba, overjoyed, performed all the Vedic birth ceremonies (Jata-Karma Sanskar) and offered worship to the demigods and forefathers.
Also:
paśupāṅgajāya — Son of the cowherd (Nanda Baba)
jayati te ’dhikaṁ janmanā vrajaḥ (SB 10.31.1) — “Vraja became glorious by Your birth.”
Thus, Krishna was born in Gokula, not in Mathura — an undisputed truth of our Gaudiya Vaishnava siddhanta.
So again we ask, where did Sri Krishna take birth? Mathura or Gokul?
