TRANSCRIPT
(Hari-katha beginning at 1:31:58)
Just I want to speak few words about Srila Gurudeva’s life history and his contribution. Already I told in Bhakti Prajnana Keshava Gosvami Maharaja, he established Gaudiya Vedanta Samiti, but in this Gaudiya Vedanta Samitis, many pillars, but main three pillars, that is called nitya-lila Bhaktivedanta Srila Vamana Gosvami Maharaja, Srila Bhaktivedanta Trivikrama Gosvami and Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja. Those who, anyhow, touched with him, he also received the mercy from him. Because our scriptures explained this way, Guru, Vaishnava they are as like touchstone.
Touchstone means sparshamani. The iron touch the touchstone and iron transfer in gold. So in same way, Gurudeva he was called sparshamani, but if you take the touchstone, this is not his completely his glorification. Why? Because touchstone transfers iron to gold, but touchstone never he transfer in gold. So Gurudeva is what is called chintamani, that is called desire stone. Chintamani That means one who just thinks about Gurudeva, Guru will give everything to you.
(Question) Touchstone doesn’t make touchstone but Gurudeva make other touchstone?
Chintamani. Gurudeva is also chintamani. Chintamani is called, what did I say? Desire stone. What is your desire coming, that will fulfil everythings. You may understand or not? You bring the iron, when iron touch the touchstone then iron transfer in gold, but chintamani is what? Just what you are thinking, automatically he will fulfil all of your desires. Goloka Vrindavana, all the trees they are called kalpa-vriksha; that is called wish-fulfilling trees.
cintāmaṇi-prakara-sadmasu kalpa-vṛkṣa-
lakṣāvṛteṣu surabhīr abhipālayantam
lakṣmī-sahasra-śata-sambhrama-sevyamānaṁ
govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi
Sri Brahma-samhita (5.29)
[I worship Govinda, the primaeval Lord, the first progenitor who is tending the cows, yielding all desire, in abodes built with spiritual gems, surrounded by millions of purpose trees, always served with great reverence and affection by hundreds of thousands of lakshmis or gopis.]
In Goloka Vrindavana, there is no need the sparshamani, touchstone, there all there is what? Chintamani. Whatever your desire will come, trees, cows, everything, fulfil all of your desires. So which is the highest? Chintamani or sparshamani? Maybe you don’t understand, again I told. If you take bath in the Ganges, then all your sinful activities will be destroyed form your heart. Gańgāra paraśa hoile. If you touch the water of the Ganges, then all your sin, papa, will be destroyed, and if you not take bath in the Ganges then you will not be purified then sinful activities not destroyed. And darshana, if you take darshana, darshana mean, just you see, visit uttama-vaishnava then automatically all your sins will be destroyed and krishna-prema will manifest in your heart.
yāṅhāra darśane mukhe āise kṛṣṇa-nāma
tāṅhāre jāniha tumi ‘vaiṣṇava-pradhāna’
Chaitanya-charitamrita (Madhya-lila 16.74)
[Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, “A first-class Vaishnava is he whose very presence makes others chant the holy name of Krishna.”]
Just taking his darshana, see, krishna-prema will manifest in your heart. That means he is called uttama-bhagavata. So who is higher, ganga-jala, the water of the Ganges or shuddha-vaishnava? That’s why it is saying
(3)
gańgāra paraśa hoile paścate pāvan
darśane pavitra koro-ei tomāra guṇ
(4)
hari-sthāne aparādhe tāre hari-nām
tomā sthāne aparādhe nāhi paritrāṇ
Ei baro karuna koro
by Narottama dasa Thakura
[After bathing in the waters of the sacred Ganges many times, one becomes purified, but just by the sight of you, the fallen souls are purified. This is your great power. The holy name delivers one who has committed an offence to Lord Hari. But, if one commits an offence to you, there is no means of deliverance.]
If you committed offence chanting the holy names, nama-aparadha, but again again chanting holy names, then nama-aparadha, all offences will slowly slowly disappear. Yāṅhāra darśane mukhe āise kṛṣṇa-nāma. If you have committed offense lotus feet of shuddha-vaishnava then you cannot do bhajana and sadhana, finished, life is finished. So why am I saying this? Because Gurudeva is an uttama-bhagavata. But how will you know uttama-bhagavata? How do you know? Because already Chaitanya-charitamrita explains:
yāṅhāra darśane mukhe āise kṛṣṇa-nāma
tāṅhāre jāniha tumi ‘vaiṣṇava-pradhāna’
Just taking darshana his lotus feet then krishna-prema will manifest. That is he called uttama-bhagavata. You are saying he is uttama-bhagavata, kanishtha-bhagavata, just you speaking, or just your knowledge of the scriptures you are speaking. How will you know he is uttama-bhagavata? When your realisation, that is self-realisation, anubhava will come.
nāyam ātmā pravacanena labhyo
na medhayā na bahunā śrutena
yam evaiṣa vṛṇute tena labhyas
tasyaiṣa ātmā vivṛṇute tanūṁ svām
Kaṭha Upaniṣad (1.2.23)
[The Supreme Lord is not attained by expert explanations, by vast intelligence or even by much hearing. He is attained only by one who He Himself chooses. To such a person He manifests Himself.]
Very clearly Upanishad this shloka. That means is what? When you do bhajana and sadhana and when you receive his mercy, then you will realise about him. Just your knowledge of the scriptures you cannot realise bhagavat-tattva, guru-tattva, vaishnava-tattva. For this regard Chaitanya-charitamrita saying this way:
īśvarera kṛpā-leśa haya ta’ yāhāre
sei ta’ īśvara-tattva jānibāre pāre
Chaitanya-charitamrita (Madhya-lila 6.83)
[If one receives but a tiny bit of the Lord’s favour by dint of devotional service, he can understand the nature of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.]
If you receive this mercy of Lord then you understand about krishna-tattva. If you will receive this mercy of Guru, then you will realise guru-tattva and if you receive this mercy of Vaishnava, then you will realise vaishnava-tattva.
athāpi te deva padāmbuja-dvaya-
prasāda-leśānugṛhīta eva hi
jānāti tattvaṁ bhagavan-mahimno
na cānya eko ’pi ciraṁ vicinvan
Srimad-Bhagavatam (10.14.29)
[My Lord, if one is favoured by even a slight trace of the mercy of Your lotus feet, he can understand the greatness of Your personality. But those who speculate to understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead are unable to know You, even though they continue to study the Vedas for many years.]
Brahma-stuti. Brahmaji he himself told, “O my Lord Krishna, though they are saying, I know all tattva-siddhanta, bhagavat-tattva, everything, let him to say.” So try to understand. Without His mercy, you cannot understand. There are many evidence. When you do bhajana and sadhana then you will realise. Same katha, Gopinatha Acharya and Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya they discuss about Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Gopinatha Acharya, he told, “Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan.” And Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya, “How possible Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan?” Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya, in the beginning he did not believe Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan, maybe He is one, some great person, that is called maha-parusha. Maybe He is very learned scholar person. So how possible Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan? All you are saying Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan, Bhagavan, Bhagavan. Why Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan? Then Gopinatha. Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya he did not believe that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan because he was impersonalist and he had vast knowledge of the shastra, he had vast knowledge of Vedas also. And Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya he is incarnation of Brihaspati. He is not ordinary person.
(One devotee asking Gurudeva: Maharaja, when you said that he would think that Mahaprabhu was maybe just a great personality maha-parusha, yes?)
Yes. Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya is saying this thing. That He is, Mahaprabhu maybe is one great person who has vast of knowledge, but Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan, he did not believe. And Gopinatha Acharya gave many evidences of shastra, no, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan. Evidence in shastras. Then he [Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya] told in this Kali-yuga no Bhagavan is coming. How the shastra the Lord will appear in this Kali-yuga? Kali-yuga Lord will come, that is called, end of Kali; that is called Kalki avatara will come. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, how possible you saying He is Svayam Bhagavan? But Gopinatha Acharya, he is shuddha-bhakta, told, “No, these are the symptoms. Mahabharata, all Puranas, he gave quotation Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan. Srimad-Bhagavatam gives evidence that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan:
tyaktvā su-dustyaja-surepsita-rājya-lakṣmīṁ
dharmiṣṭha ārya-vacasā yad agād araṇyam
māyā-mṛgaṁ dayitayepsitam anvadhāvad
vande mahā-puruṣa te caraṇāravindam
Srimad-Bhagavatam (11.5.34)
[O Maha-purusha, I worship Your lotus feet. You gave up the association of the goddess of fortune and all her opulence, which is most difficult to renounce and is hankered after by even the great demigods. Being the most faithful follower of the path of religion, You thus left for the forest in obedience to a brahmana’s curse. Out of sheer mercifulness You chased after the fallen conditioned souls, who are always in pursuit of the false enjoyment of illusion, and at the same time engaged in searching out Your own desired object, Lord Shyamasundara.]
kṛṣṇa-varṇaṁ tviṣākṛṣṇaṁ
sāṅgopāṅgāstra-pārṣadam
yajñaiḥ saṅkīrtana-prāyair
yajanti hi su-medhasaḥ
Srimad-Bhagavatam (11.5.32)
[In the Age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the names of Krishna. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Krishna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and confidential companions.]
That is the symptoms. You read Srimad-Bhagavatam. The conversation between Nava-Yogendras and Nimi Maharaja. Nimi Maharaja asked this question: In Kali-yuga, how will we know He is Bhagavan? What are the symptoms of Bhagavan? And which mantra we worship to Lord in this Kali-yuga? And how will we know He is Bhagavan? That time he quoted this verse:
tyaktvā su-dustyaja-surepsita-rājya-lakṣmīṁ
dharmiṣṭha ārya-vacasā yad agād araṇyam
māyā-mṛgaṁ dayitayepsitam anvadhāvad
vande mahā-puruṣa te caraṇāravindam
kṛṣṇa-varṇaṁ tviṣākṛṣṇaṁ
sāṅgopāṅgāstra-pārṣadam
yajñaiḥ saṅkīrtana-prāyair
yajanti hi su-medhasaḥ
The evidence. But still Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya he did not believe that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Bhagavan. Then Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya told to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, “You are navina–sannyasi, You are young boy and took sannyasa, only twenty four years old and You took sannyasa, but You have no knowledge about sannyasa, You don’t know etiquette of sannyasa, You should stay in one place and learn vedanta-darshana,” Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya told. “And I will teach You all vedanta-darshana. And You took sannyasa from madhyama, middle stage of sannyasi, but I will give sannyasa, uttama-sannyasa, high class sannyasa.” Mahaprabhu, very humble, told, “Yes, you are as like mother, father, now I am taking shelter to your lotus feet, what you will give, I will listen everything from you.” Seven days Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya he gave vedanta-darshana-katha. Athāto brahma jijñāsā. All Vedanta-sutra, very nice he gave. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu listen, sitting, and Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya other disciples, they are very enthusiastic saying, “Gurudeva! What you speaking, so nice and everything we understand very clearly.”
(After translation:
Gurudeva: Who is saying that?
The other disciples of Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya.
Gurudeva: otherwise you’ll misunderstand, have to be careful.)
Then Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya asked to, “Hey navina-sannyasi, new sannyasi, what is Your opinion? You understand or not? You are listen or not?” Then Mahaprabhu said, “Yes, I am listening everything. But when you spoke all the verses of Vedanta-sutra, then all these things I clearly understand. Athāto brahma jijñāsā. In this way. But when you give the explanation of Vedanta-sutra, that time I am thinking sun completely covered with rain clouds.” Then Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya became very angry. “That means I am giving wrong explanation. I am giving sannyasa to everbody. I am Shankaracharya’s best philosopher, so how possible I gave wrong explanation of vedanta-darshana?” Then Chaitanya Mahaprabhu told, “Look, this verse also saying this way, how possible jiva, living entity, will become Brahma? Sarvaṃ khalvidaṃ brahma, you are saying. How possible jiva will become Brahma?”
So in this way Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu cut all the explanation of Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya’s vedanta-darshana. Then Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya cannot speak anything. Then Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya, he realised that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Svayam Bhagavan. Still thinking, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Svayam Bhagavan or not, some also doubts. Maybe, maybe not, maybe, maybe not. Bhagavan or not, now he is thinking maybe, maybe not, doubts. Then Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, “Ok, you have doubt with Me, whether I am Bhagavan or not.” Then Chaitanya Mahaprabhu manifested His six arms. Two arms He is playing flute, “I am same Krishna, Dvaraka-yuga. In Treta-yuga, I am same Ramachandra, look the bow and arrow, and now I am same sannyasi, with kamandalu.“ Then Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya absolutely surrendered to Him. Then Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya he recited many stava-stutis and glorification about Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Vairāgya-vidyā-nija-bhakti-yoga-śikṣārtham ekaḥ puruṣaḥ purāṇaḥ… These shlokas he recited and stava-stuti and did pranama, then he realised Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is Svayam Bhagavan, kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam. You understand? Why am I saying this? Same way, when you do bhajana and sadhana, then self-realisation will come, then you will realise this tattva: guru-tattva; vaishnava-tattva; bhagavat-tattva, every tattva, realisation will come, and by the causeless mercy of Guru and Krishna, everything will manifest in your heart. And another thing I tell to you, when realisation will come that time, you have your mind will be one-pointed with Guru and Krishna. This is the symptom. That he was speaking that the realisation or just commenting on the memory or commenting the paper. Gurudeva told one story, as like the parrot, parrot also chant holy names, “Rama, Rama, Krishna, Krishna.” Parrot has realisation? No. Just you teach to him, “Rama, Rama.” Same as the tune of your voice. Rama, Rama, Krishna, Krishna. Papagaio, what you say, same thing also say. But when the cat jump up on him, that time, papagaio not chant “Rama, Rama,” chant, “Teyer! Teyer! Teyer!” Same thing, when your self-realisation will come, then you perfectly, absolutely, this is absolutely truth. That means is what, so for this regard, clearly explains this way:
īśvarera kṛpā-leśa haya ta’ yāhāre
sei ta’ īśvara-tattva jānibāre pāre
One who receives the mercy of Lord, then he realises ishvara-tattva, bhagavat-tattva, otherwise not, just you learn something and speaking. Realisation are another things. Realisation will come two ways, one is called mercy and your endeavours.
So all of you receive mercy of Gurudeva, I believe. But you have to realise yourself. Rain is water falling, rain coming. This is true. But have to realise. How will you realise? Do bhajana and sadhana. Chanting holy names and realisation will come. And another thing, transcendental things you cannot just adjust according to the knowledge establish, something, realisation will come. Fire if you touch, if you touch your hand in the fire, your hand will be burnt or not? (Devotees: Yes) If you say, “No, this fire will never burn my hand when you touch it.” So in the same way, if you touch the fire with your hand, then realisation will, “Oh this is very hot and burn.” So in the same way Guru, Bhagavan, how you know He is Bhagavan? When you do bhajana and sadhana. Then self-realisation will come, everything will manifest in your heart. Sometimes this light, on a red light, very far away, you are thinking this is maybe fire, if you touch that, your hand will burn or not? No, because this is not the fire, just an artificial light, and the fire is there and you touch, your hand will burn.
One who follows all the rules and regulations, vidhi-marga, and listen the vrajavasis-katha that time his greed will come, how to enter in raganuga-bhakti. Srila Gurudeva preaching this way, simultaneously he is giving the emphasis is first, vidhi-marga, rules and regulations of the shastra:
śruti-smṛti-purāṇādi-pañcarātra-vidhiṃ
vinā aikāntikī harer bhaktir utpātāyaiva kalpate
Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu (1.2.101)
[Devotional service of the Lord that ignores the authorised Vedic literatures like the Upanishads, Puranas and Narada-pancharatra is simply an unnecessary disturbance in society.]
That means those who are not following rules and regulations of the shastra, they are thinking I am gopi, I am raganuga, raganuga-sadhaka, that is called disturbance bhakti. For this regard, Rupa Gosvami very clearly, Sri Upadeshamrita, Nectar of Instruction, first shloka:
vāco vegaṁ manasaḥ krodha-vegaṁ
jihvā-vegam udaropastha-vegam
etān vegān yo viṣaheta dhīraḥ
sarvām apīmāṁ pṛthivīṁ sa śiṣyāt
Upadeshamrita (1)
[A sober person who can tolerate the urge to speak, the mind’s demands, the actions of anger and the urges of the tongue, belly and genitals is qualified to make disciples all over the world.]
You have to control the six urges of your senses. Now I am gopi, gopi, gopi. Then which gopi will come? Pakora-gopi will come. Kachori-gopi will come. Jalebi-gopi will come. Rasagulla-gopi will come. Vaishnava dasa will become Panira dasa. You know this story or not? Gurudeva first impresses how everybody should follow the vidhi-marga, rules and regulations of the scriptures, then slowly, slowly listen to hari-katha, then greed will come how to enter into vraja-raganuga-bhakti. So Gurudeva told, if you not listen vraja-katha, how possible samskara, impressions come in your heart, but first also, follow vidhi-marga:
vidhi-mārga-rata-jane svādhīnatā-ratna-dāne
rāga-mārge karāna praveśa
Sahajiyas, sakhi-bhekhis, difference is what? They don’t want to follow rules and regulations of shastras. They are thinking, “I am gopi, so now need to follow the rules.”
For this regard, Gurudeva, he manifested one book, Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja, very powerful book, that is called Prabandha-panchakam, Five Essential Essays. This grantha, you read, English also there. Bengali, Hindi, English. When Gurudeva manifested this grantha, was free, distributed to babaji-sampradaya here and everywhere, that time they became very angry. You have this grantha or not? Portuguese? Portuguese, have to translate. English. You have to read. Gurudeva gave all the evidence from shastra. That time all babaji-sampradayas they became very angry with Gurudeva, and they thinking, we have to get a court case against Narayana Maharaja. So in Vrindavana, in one month, all these apa-sampradayas, they also meeting every day, how to do court case against Narayana Maharaja, and their name is there. Gurudeva gave their nama, name is there. That time they were thinking, who will go to court case against Narayana Maharaja in the court? Because Gurudeva, Srila Narayana Maharaja, gave all the evidence from shastra. Then judge will give punishment to him. That means who will tie the bell on the neck of the cat? Srila Gour Govinda Svami Maharaja, he told this story also.
Once lot of mice inside the house, then one person is thinking, “Oh what to do now?” Then he bought one cat. When the cat enter in the house, then all mice running, afraid from the cat and running here and there. Then all the mice, they meeting, how will we be saved from the cat? Then all the mice they also decide, this very easy way to be saved from the cat, if anyhow, you put one bell around the neck of the cat, then when cat will come, that bell will ring, ding, ding, ding, then cat is coming then all we run away and save our life. But all they gave decision; good. And what was the decision? Who will bind one bell around the neck of the cat? *Who will go and bind the bell around the neck of the cat? Cat will eat or not? Kill or not? Who will go? So no one can. All are afraid from cat. So in the same way, all babajis and apa-sampradayas they also did meeting, one month they did meeting we have to do court case against Narayana Maharaja because he wrote this book and criticised to us. But who will go to court? So you try to understand how he was, Gurudeva, how he was very powerful acharya. As like Srila Jiva Gosvamipada, he gave the siddhanta all acharya they accept. In the same way, Gurudeva tattva-siddhanta, absolutely truth. No one can cut his philosophy. For this regard, and also Gurudeva, he was called rasika-acharya. Simultaneously he was also tattva-siddhantic, vedantic, he knows all tattva-siddhanta and simultaneously, he is called rasika-acharya.
And especially in the Mathura Matha when is Janmashtami, Radhashtami. After Janmashtami, Radhashtami, he called all panditas in our temple and discussed krishna-katha, Radharani’s, all they are speaking. But when he spoke shastra, all panditas become very surprised. Just I tell you, everybody established: ete cāṁśa-kalāḥ puṁsaḥ kṛṣṇas tu bhagavān svayam. But Gurudeva established: ok, Krishna is Svayam Bhagavan, Brahmaji is saying, govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi. Brahma-samhita is saying or not? But Prabodhananda Sarasvati:
yat-kiṅkarīṣu bahuśaḥ khalu kāku-vāṇī
nityaṁ parasya puruṣasya śikhaṇḍa-mauleḥ
tasyāḥ kadā rasa-nidheḥ vṛṣabhānu-jāyās
tat-keli-kuñja-bhavanāṅgana-mārjanī syām
Sri Radha-rasa-sudha-nidhi (8)
by Prabodhananda Sarasvati
[O daughter of Vrishabhanu Maharaja, ocean of rasa, that beautiful boy who wears a gracefully tilting peacock feather in His hair is actually the original Personality of Godhead. Still, He is always falling at the feet of Your maidservants and pitifully begging them with many humble words to gain entrance into Your kunja where the two of You engage in Your playful loving pastimes. My life would be successful if I could even be one stick in the broom Your maidservants use to clean Your delightful kunja. ]
Krishna, again and again, bow down His forehead the lotus feet of Srimati Radhika, so how possible Krishna is Bhagavan? Brahma, Shiva, Narada, all the high class elevated Vaishnavas, they paid their obeisances lotus feet of Krishna, and same Krishna, what is He doing?
smara-garala-khaṇḍanaṁ
mama śirasi maṇḍanaṁ
dehi pada-pallavam udāram
Gita-govinda
[My beloved, offer the fresh buds of your enchanting feet as an ornament upon My head, so the devastating effect of Cupid’s poison may be alleviated and the harsh fire of amorous desires may also be relieved.]
Krishna, what is He saying? “Hey Srimati Radhike, now I am offering all My things, My mayura-mukuta, peacock feather [crown], I am giving My flute Your lotus feet. I am holding My ears,” and up and down, this way. But still Srimati Radhika, She is not pleased with Krishna. Then He says: dehi pada-pallavam udāram. “Hey Srimati Radhike, You also keep Your lotus feet on My head.” When Srimati Radhika did mana, She closed Her kunja. And Krishna is crying:
yat-kiṅkarīṣu bahuśaḥ khalu kāku-vāṇī
nityaṁ parasya puruṣasya śikhaṇḍa-mauleḥ
tasyāḥ kadā rasa-nidheḥ vṛṣabhānu-jāyās
tat-keli-kuñja-bhavanāṅgana-mārjanī syām
So there are many shlokas. When Gurudeva quoted this verse then all panditas became very surprised. Because rasika, on one hand vedantic, and another hand, also Gurudeva rasika-acharya. For this regard, all that Vrajavasis, Vraja Academy, they gave Gurudeva this title, they called yuga-acharya. Even when Gurudeva gave class about Bhagavad-gita also he spoke about Srimati Radhika and gopi-katha in there.
man-manā bhava mad-bhakto
mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru
mām evaiṣyasi satyaṁ te
pratijāne priyo ’si me
Bhagavad-gita (18.65)
[Always think of Me, become My devotee, worship Me and offer your homage unto Me. Thus you will come to Me without fail. I promise you this because you are My very dear friend.]
You are completely absorbed with Me. Gurudeva, who completely absorbed? Gopis. So there are many kathas in there. Because Gurudeva conception, shastra, vichara, tattva-siddhanta, rasa-vichara, unique and unparalleled. Those who associate with him and listen hari-katha, then you realise how Gurudeva was great, mahana. Guru’s mercy, what is it? If you chastisement from Guru then actually you receive mercy of Guru. If you never chastisement from Guru then how you receive Guru’s mercy? Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Prabhupada, he wrote this verse. Guru chastisement means is what? That is called his mercy. You understand? But conditioned soul, they do not understand. They are thinking, “Oh, his guru is always glorify to me. Oh you are very nice, very sweet.” This is bona fide guru. Hey stupid nonsense! No this is not bona fide guru. Understand. You did not see Srila Nayarana Maharaja how he chastisement. We are staying, Madhava Maharaja, Tirtha Maharaja, Premananda Prabhu, we saw and we realise, without Guru’s chastisement, how possible you will get this mercy? Now we only do, “Oh you are nice, nice, nice.” Guru’s mercy is coming this way, when you receive chastisement from him, then you will realise. You listen to Srila Gour Govinda Svami Maharaja lecture in his hand one stick. You see or not? You can see, in television you can see. Mostly he also chastisement disciple, stupid, nonsense, rascal, and hogs and dogs he said. Arre, baba! Two legged hog. “Ananta dasa? Maya dasa!” He said. Tomorrow you will see his hari-katha, how he chastises. “Ananta dasa? Maya dasa! Ananta dasa? Mr. Hog.” Hog understand? “What are you doing? Always chasing behind the female hog. Ah!!” “Hey, Puranjana!” “Hold your ears and up, down!” Disciple means up, down. You see? In ISKCON. But really Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja, great acharya, and in this was he gave training his disciples. In the same way Srila Gurudeva, Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja, he also very heavy chastisement. That time in Mathura, not so easy to stay, so much sweat will come, sweat coming from means is what? Heavy chastisement, not the hot, chastisement means…For this regard, Bhaktivedanta Svami Maharaja, he quoted in Bengali: jei sahe sei rahe. One who tolerance, he will be devotee and he can do bhajana and sadhana. When Gurudeva, Narayana Maharaja gave hari-katha, if anyone will come, direct say to them, “Hey Krishna-kripa! Come hari-katha.” “Oh Maharaja I have do this, this,” “Hey! Come here.” Then he just put his gamcha and sit. You know, my uncle, Madhusudana Maharaja, he has so much responsibility in his temple, sometimes he also cooking, but sometimes he also, but when Gurudeva, Nayarana Gosvami Maharaja hari-katha, if he was not coming, “Hey Krishna-kripa! Come! Sit down here. Paryataka Maharaja, who is the acharya of Devananda Gaudiya Matha, and, “Hey Paryataka Maharaja, come here.” Very rigid. Only for his hari-katha, I did not see two persons come or not come, Srila Gurudeva, Vamana Gosvami Maharaja and Srila Trivikrama Maharaja, but he is never saying this. But others he chastised to everybody. Who will not coming, one brahmachari, what he will say if one brahmachari will not come, twist and bham!
Gaura premanande! Hari Hari Bol!
[Small kirtana].
(Gurudeva speaks of future festivals and says: Very nice beautiful festivals, all of you co-operate. I’ll take whose name and whose not name. I will not take whose name they will be angry. If I take your husband name, then wife will say, “Gurudeva, why you not taking my name?” Actually Indian system is that, vedic system, if you take your husband’s name then automatically, the wife’s name is coming, no need to say. And if you take the husband’s name then automatically wife name is coming, there is no need to take both names, but some are thinking, “Gurudeva, you take my husband’s name, but you didn’t take my name?” Vrajavasis are saying:
radhe radhe japenge chale ayenge bihari
Vraja song
[Chant Radhe Radhe, Bihari (Krishna) will come walking.]
If you chant ‘Radhe Radhe’, Krishna automatically there, no need to chant krishna–nama. Understand? Simple way. If I take, ok, this very nice devotee of Vrindavana, Vrindavana wife, then automatically this coming. If I take Vrindavana’s wife’s name, what is name? Taruni-gopi, then automatically, Taruni-gopi, very nice, then automatically husband’s name coming or not?
radhe radhe japenge chale ayenge bihari
radharani kai krishna chalenge aur krishna name pai radhaji
Vraja song
[“Without Radharani, Krishna won’t come; by chanting Krishna’s name, Radhaji arrives.]
If you chant radha-nama then Krishna will automatically come. Understand? This is our Vedic system. So you are thinking, “Why is my name not taking? My wife’s name not taking? Husband’s name not taking?” So that means, you are thinking, I am not belong to husband, husband not belong to wife. Our Vedic system is there, husband belongs to wife and wife belongs to husband.
Gaura-premanande! Hari Hari Bol!)Bolo Vrindavana-bihari-lala ki jaya!
