Prema-vivarta, Day 1: Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa-tattva, Hlādinī and the Acintya Tattva
• A New Morning Series: Gurudeva begins seven or eight days of morning classes on Śrī Prema-vivarta by Jagadānanda Paṇḍita, Mahāprabhu’s dear associate, known as a manifestation of Satyabhāmā (Caitanya-caritāmṛta Ādi 10.21). He recites the book’s maṅgalācaraṇa, rādhā kṛṣṇa-praṇaya-vikṛtir hlādinī śaktir …, and explains that Mahāprabhu is Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa in one form.
• One Tattva, Bheda and Abheda: The tattva-vastu is one without a second, yet manifests as Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa and again as Mahāprabhu. With Jīva Gosvāmī’s four-fold manifestation of the one parama-tattva (sun, its rays, reflection and shadow) and Brahma-saṁhitā 5.39, he explains acintya-bhedābheda: the jīva is cinmaya like Bhagavān, yet aṇu and māyā-vaśa while He is vibhu and Māyādhīśa.
• Sandhinī, Saṁvit and Hlādinī: A thing is known by its śakti and its action, as a person is known by his strength; śakti and śaktimān are never separate. Hlādinī gives the one vastu two forms and enacts the līlā of Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa in Vraja; its vikṛti is praṇaya, where the hearts of both become one (tava hṛdayaṁ mama hṛdayam).
• Svakīyā, Parakīyā and Sādhu-saṅga: The marriage of Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa shown in the Purāṇas is for prākṛta minds; each goes on in the rasa of his own adhikāra. Anarthas go only through sādhu-saṅga and hari-kathā, which remove the clouds and give the eyes the power to see the ever-shining sun of kṛṣṇa-prema.
• Acintya Is Beyond Argument: Hlādinī, the aghaṭana-ghaṭana-paṭīyasī śakti, causes vikāra even in the nirvikāra, as milk is transformed into curd. Rādhā is pūrṇa-śakti and Kṛṣṇa pūrṇa-śaktimān. Logicians cannot understand this even in lakhs of years; it is beyond the mind, faster than light, and known only by Kṛṣṇa’s mercy, seen through the añjana of prema like the many colours of a vaidūrya gem.
• Why Two Bodies?: Praṇaya needs two, as a clap needs two hands meeting at ninety degrees; its vikāra shows on the face, as love becomes Jagannātha’s smile. From eko ’haṁ bahu syām, Yogamāyā manifested Rādhā from Kṛṣṇa’s left side, and by Her beauty the ātmārāma Kṛṣṇa ran towards Her; She then expanded into the sakhīs (Brahma-saṁhitā 5.37).
• Beyond Time: The answer is that kṛṣṇa-tattva is deśa-kālātīta. In this world there is no real present and the guṇas follow the sun, so one should rise in brāhma-muhūrta; in the aprākṛta world there is only the eternal present, ever-new, and every apparent fault is resolved by acintya-śakti. Darśana comes through the prema-cakṣu, opened by the ears; like a mute man tasting a rasagullā, the highest prema cannot be put into words.
• Vāmyatā and Rādhā’s Māna: Śiśupāla’s abuse was violent, the gopīs’ is loving and gives Kṛṣṇa ānanda; Gurudeva warns not to imitate Rādhā’s crookedness. When Rādhā in māna shuts the kuñja and bans everything black, Vṛndā Devī disguises Kṛṣṇa as a sannyāsī singing “In Your separation Kṛṣṇa took sannyāsa”, until one glance reveals Him.
Gurudeva closes by recalling that the foreign devotees used to stage this līlā as a drama, which his own Gurudeva liked very much, laughing heartily.
