- 0:00:15 – What is bhakti? It is Srimati Radharani Herself. Example of a tree: when you water the root, all the parts are nourished.
- 0:03:13 – Where does shraddha (faith) come from? From Srimati Radharani. Rasa-vichar (analysis of mellows) is the mercy of Radharani; tattva-vichar (philosophical analysis) is the mercy of Baladeva Prabhu.
- 0:03:50 – The meaning of sadhu-sanga (association with saints) is to serve Sri Hari. A person who listens to Krishna-katha hears transcendental vibrations, and thus anarthas (unwanted desires) leave the heart. Example of cleaning rust from iron. When anarthas leave, one’s svarupa (spiritual form) is revealed.
- 0:05:40 – The jiva’s svarupa is attained with a specific spiritual mood, the seed of which is already within you. All rasas are already present. Srila Rupa Gosvami Prabhu explains in his Upadeshamrita what sadhu-sanga is (“dadati pratigrhnati”). Levels of a sadhaka’s development (asakti, ruci, nishtha, bhava). There are two paths, like an elevator and stairs: Vaidhi-marg and Rupanuga-marg. Vaidhi-marg is the staircase; Rupanuga-marg is the elevator. If you follow only Vaidhi-marg, you will reach only Vaikuntha; via Rupanuga, you attain Goloka.
- 0:12:04 – When will taste come? When you feel hunger. Then you won’t have many questions. Srila Sanatana Gosvami Prabhu says in Brihad Bhagavatamrita: a hungry person won’t ask what to eat, they will eat what they see. Rupanuga-bhakti is the fast path.
- 0:15:30 – Srila Sanatana Gosvami Prabhu, in Brihad Bhagavatamrita, gives an example: a man goes to the Himalayas; on the way, people are distributing food. There are two ways to eat: cooking yourself, or ready-made food. It all depends on your desire.
- 0:20:17 – Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja preached that you should look like ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:21:36 – Returning to the story: if you prefer ready-made food, that is Rupanuga-marg. It all depends on your previous samskaras (impressions). In any life, one must start with Vaidhi-marg. One cannot neglect the rules; one must accept a Guru and follow the instructions.
- 0:27:33 – Who was the Guru of Haridasa Thakur? An unusual personality, a combined form of Prahlada and Brahma.
- 0:29:41 – If someone has not taken formal initiation but chants the holy names, it means they received initiation in a past life. This is described in Madhurya Kadambini. Haridasa Thakur chanted 3 lakhs of holy names. Do not compare yourself to Haridasa Thakur.
- 0:31:00 – The glory of the holy name. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu took initiation from Ishvari Puripada; thus the Lord teaches us. Ramachandra, Krishna—they all accepted a Guru.
- 0:32:17 – Rupa Gosvami Prabhu says that observing Ekadashi is one of the 64 limbs of bhakti.
- 0:33:30 – If you do not follow the rules of Vaidhi-marg, it causes disturbance in society.
- 0:34:40 – A Vaishnava is Brahma, and Brahma is a Vaishnava. Serving one Vaishnava is equal to serving 1000 brahmanas. A Vaishnava is one who is directed towards Radha.
- 0:40:58 – The glory of the holy name; namabhasa (the dim reflection of the name).
- 0:43:50 – The betel nut gives a red color to Krishna’s lips. Radhika thought, “How much affection does Krishna have for me?” Krishna thought, “Radha wants a betel nut,” and gives her the nut. At that moment, Radha manifests man (loving anger). Krishna forcefully embraces Her and kisses Her cheek. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur says (as Kamala Manjari): “When I go to fetch water from the Yamuna… then I will get the darshan of the Divine Couple. I will sing kirtan, the glories of Radha and Krishna, walking through the forest and singing. Perform bhajan, and all these moods will manifest in your heart. Nama Prabhu will shower His mercy upon you.”
- 0:48:00 – A story: a man chewed a betel nut and spat in the corner of a temple. The Lord thought, “Oh, he has painted My temple,” and that man acquired sukriti (pious merit). Our vision and the Lord’s vision are different.
- 0:50:07 – The Lord forgives if an offense is committed unknowingly; it is not a sin. If done knowingly, it is a sin. A story from the Puranas: the Lord does not accept offenses from simple village folk.
- 0:51:08 – A story from Srila Jiva Gosvami Prabhu about how a mouse was born as a princess in its next life.
- 0:53:05 – A princess of Vraj always performed the arati ceremony, worshiped, and acquired sukriti. She attained bhakti and went to the Lord’s abode.
- 0:53:50 – We must follow Bhakti via Vaidhi-marg.
- 0:54:50 – Question: A person died at home; should we give him water? Gurudev says: There are two types of pinda-dana (ritual offering); first, offer it to the Lord.
- 0:58:00 – If you have initiation and a guru-mantra, you don’t need to do anything else. People fear they will disturb (the deceased), but they will not.
- 1:00:11 – The ritual of pinda-dan: first you offer to the Lord, then to the deceased. Why do you ask sadhus for money? Asking for money for a wedding? A wedding is like destruction. Will that benefit society?
- 1:04:02 – The scriptures say that on Ekadashi, one should not be fed grains and beans. This refers to people. You can offer them to cows and animals. In Gaudiya Matha, they offer rice and mung beans to the Deities.
- 1:07:25 – Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, “I want to eat,” on Ekadashi. His mother had not cooked anything. The Lord is above the rules. The Lord demonstrates all rules and regulations.
